Sierra Miles
Secretary
Sierra is driven by social and racial equity, and values history as an important reference for future innovation. While earning her Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Design from The University of Washington, Sierra was the first student researcher appointed to the Benjamin McAdoo Research Collective during its seminal launch in 2021. The research of Washington State’s first black licensed architect focuses on the intersection of modern architecture and the American Civil Rights Movement. During her time with the collective, she has presented her findings at public architectural forums. With a passion for history and preservation, Sierra worked in the archives at The UW Special Collections Library with the Architectural Drawings department. This archival endeavor culminated in the creation of a digitized repository encompassing Benjamin McAdoo’s architectural drawings, making them accessible to the broader public for the first time.
Sierra is an advocate for youth education and co-teaches the Introduction to Architectural Studies with the UW Youth and Teens Program. It is her belief that by uplifting the voices and concerns of the youth, we can plan for a bright, inclusive future.
As the NOMA NW Secretary, Sierra is seeking to connect community members that support the progress of diversity across the profession.
